The Pièce d’eau des Suisses
Below the Orangery, the Pièce d’eau des Suisses forms a large rectangular pool dug by the Swiss guards of Louis XIV. You walk around it in a good hour, on foot or running, between centuries-old trees and a view of the south façade of the palace. The ideal spot for an iced coffee in summer and a brisker pace in winter.
Forest of Versailles and Minière Pond
The state forest of Versailles stretches over more than a thousand hectares, extended by the Marly woods. On the southern side, Minière Pond, lined with pines and beeches, is a favourite walking destination for locals. Marked trails, bridle paths and star-shaped junctions inherited from royal hunts: every walk has its charm and its reason to talk.
Royal Alley and small gardens
More tucked away, the Royal Alley of Villepreux extends the Grand Canal’s axis westward for several kilometres, a spectacular setting for a bike ride. In town, the quieter gardens of Parc Balbi or Les Récollets offer a calm refuge. On Lyad, members from Versailles share their favourite trails; it is up to you to find someone to breathe easier with.
